Signal Design Manager

Location: York (UK)

Brief Description of Role:

The main purpose of this role is to manage and be responsible for detailed signalling design and scheme proposal projects. Provide technical support, mentoring and advice as required in support of the business. Manage Signalling Resources and assist with business development. Ensure that all work is delivered in accordance with technical, safety and quality standards.

JMDR’s wiring facilities for assembly of location cases, racks and other signalling equipment are at Minto (NSW, Australia) and Noida (Near Delhi, India). JMDR provides engineering services in the areas of:

1. Railway Signal Design
2. Supply of Location Cases / Wiring Racks / Junction Boxes
3. Critical Signalling Resources
4. Signalling Construction Works
5. Testing and Commissioning
6. Workplace Assessment
7. Signalling Management
8. Work Packages and Project Documentation
9. Updating of Circuit Books and CAD Works
10. Audits

The qualifications, knowledge and experience requirements are as below.

Qualifications:

• Professional engineering / diploma engineering qualifications (preferably in Electrical) and suitable training courses / HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Hold an IRSE Signalling Principles Designer 1.1.550, Signalling Design Verifier License 1.1.160 and/or Design Manager 1.1.145
• Membership of IRSE or other relevant Engineering Institution.
• To have passed or sat modules of the IRSE Professional Examinations.
• Holder of Personal Track Safety card.

Knowledge and experience:

• Extensive experience in management of Signalling Designs and/or Projects from concept to completion with demonstrated ability to manage multiple teams and multiple designs / projects
• Demonstrated experience to manage various stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience and ability of managing and delivering quality designs and deliverables
• Good understanding of task, time and people management skills.
• Ability to prepare and provide feedback on feasibility reports and concept designs
• Significant railway experience in Signal Design / Projects (minimum of 10 years experience)
• Detailed Design Experience in Railway RRI and SSI / CBI Interlockings
• Extensive hands on previous / current experience in design, checking and verification signalling circuits, signalling plans, bonding plans, location / REB designs, control tables, operational & control panel diagrams, interface design, data and location drawings.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, interface management and computer skills
• Right attitude, ability to plan & organise with strong analytical skills, monitor, attention to detail and ability to work unsupervised with efficiency and safely in a team work environment. to plan & organise with strong analytical skills, monitor, attention to detail and ability to manage
• Ensure value for money with commercial awareness.
• Have design draughting experience
• Railway Signalling Design System (RSDS) and Cab-I-Net experience
